Completed in 2009, Kensington Court provides forty eight apartments with associated communal and ancillary spaces for older people, all under one roof. The overriding aim of our client, Pembrokeshire Housing Association, was to improve quality of life for older people of all abilities as well as providing communal spaces that could be used by the wider community.
The site is situated on the outskirts of Pembroke Dock, in a residential area backing on to extensive countryside. A steep slope across the site enabled a large building to be integrated into a suburban residential context, without dominating the surrounding two storeys buildings.
With particular emphasis on energy efficiency, this £6 million development incorporates a highly insulated building envelope, a CHP system, direct solar hot water, and a whole house ventilation system (with feature roof vents), all of which reduce energy consumption and running costs.
