Captain’s Walk
As the first scheme in the Cardiff Living partnership between the city council and Wates residential, Braunton and Clevedon will be a development of 107 new houses and apartments on two sloping brownfield sites in Llanrumney.
Both sites occupy long and narrow strips of land running alongside the adjacent roads of Braunton Crescent and Clevedon Road and are separated by a swathe of parkland which will also be improved as part of the scheme. There will be a total of 40 affordable dwellings across the development, built to standards that exceed the DQR and Lifetime Homes.
Heavily influenced by the traditional Cardiff house type, the styling of dwellings will give a clear sense of regional identity to both homes and streets and achieve a high density without compromising architectural quality. Familiar repetition with a continuous building line and elegant proportions with tall openings and steep roof pitches will be desirable to existing residents and potential purchasers.
Marker buildings act as focal points to address important corners and approaches to the site whilst continuous active frontages will be complimented by new home-zones which maximize the relationship with the improved parkland.
The scheme achieved planning approval in September 2016 and started on site in the Summer of 2017.
