New homes for old
  • West Sussex care homes completed

On 21 April 2009 Pentan Partnership completed its largest project to date - twelve care homes for the elderly, for Shaw healthcare, in partnership with West Sussex County Council. Ranging in size from 40-beds up to 90-beds these care homes and day care centres are spread right across the county of West Sussex and replace sixteen out-dated residential homes, as part of a county-wide re-prevision of facilities for the elderly. The twelth and final care home, in Steyning, was the most challenging of all. At 60-beds it is the largest building within the central Steyning Conservation Area and, as such, it needed to be very site-sensitive. Traditional and modern forms and details have been brought together to make a contemporary arts-and-crafts building that is light and airy and civic in its response to the public space that it overlooks. We wish all of the residents and the care staff well in their new homes.

Congratulations are especially due to Pentan Partnership's Andrew Lewis and his team who, over the six years of this project, have navigated the often stormy waters of construction to bring all twelve homes to a successful conclusion. Our thanks to Warings, the builder of all twelve homes, for its commitment to quality over the period of our collaboration with them.
