After fifteen years experience of a disparate range of housing projects in a variety of private and public practices, John co-founded Pentan Partnership in 1995. He combines his practice life with teaching at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University. In addition to teaching at the Welsh School, John has also taught in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cardiff University and on the Interior Architecture degree course at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
John is active in the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) and, in 2004, chaired the jury of the Welsh Housing Design Awards. In 2005 he was invited to lecture at the RSAW’s spring conference, at which he presented the practice’s proposals for a competition-winning extra-care housing development in South Wales. He is also a long-standing member (15+ years) of the committee of management of Community Design for Gwent, a local (Newport-based) community technical aid centre.
Projects completed in recent years include specialist dementia care centres for the elderly in Droitwich Spa and Evesham, Worcestershire; an award-winning Community Care Centre in Ledbury, Herefordshire; competition-winning extra-care developments in Evesham, Worcestershire, for The Extra-care Charitable Trust; and Aberafan, South Wales, for Dewi Sant Housing Association; four elderly persons resource centres (a new breed of residential care centre for the elderly) in Northamptonshire; and several residential care homes and day care developments in Herefordshire, in conjunction with Herefordshire Council; and West Sussex, in conjunction with West Sussex County Council.
