General Needs and Supported Housing
Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales
This residential development, for Hendre Housing Association, on the former Twyn-yr-Odyn Junior School site in Merthry Tydfil, comprises 24 dwellings. The site itself posed several challenges, not least amongst which were its previous history as an iron ore mining location and its steeply-sloping topography.
This project is part of the Building Research Establishment's "ECO PILOT HOMES" scheme, under the Welsh Assembly Government's development programme to achieve Level 4, under the Code for Sustainable Homes. Pentan Partnership proposed a modular MMC solution, with "superior" (as rated by the BRE's Green Guide) finishing materials used throughout.
Reserved Matters Planning Permission is currently being obtained; with a projected start-on-site date set for the summer of 2009.
