Extra Care Flats

Nantyglo, South Wales

Located at approximately 1000 feet (330 metres) above sea level, this exposed site, with magnificent across-the-valley views, presented quite a challenge. Our design, to provide 44 housing-with-care flats and associated communal facilities, proposes a ‘wrapped’ courtyard that balances shelter within this courtyard with sunlight penetration thereto. All of the flats are orientated to wards the sun; with the building height kept low on the southern side, to maximise solar insolation.
