Our first extra-care project in Wales, this competition-winning design provides 51 Flats and extensive communal facilities in its beach-front setting. Fundamental to our design strategy was our desire to raise the architectural bar in this seen-better-times location; and to make an architecture that responds to the very special place that is Aberafan beach and promenade. Communal accommodation is clustered around a top-lit, triple-height winter garden/cafe; with all circulation spaces leading directly to this ‘heart’ of the scheme. All flats have sea views, to make what we described, at competition stage, as “a democratic architecture”.
